Attorney Keith Altman will explain how to advocate effectively for student protections including: the right to a safe and nondiscriminatory learning environment that is free from sexual violence and harassment; the right to receive prompt and effective response to reports of sexual violence and harassment; the right to participate in Title IX investigations and proceedings.
Core Services Reminder
Student Visa Issues: Protecting Your Status While You Focus on School
K Altman Law helps international students (F-1, J-1, and dependents) navigate immigration and campus challenges tied to academics, conduct, work, and travel—so you stay enrolled, eligible, and on track. We advise on course load changes, medical or mental-health leaves, withdrawals, and program extensions, and coordinate with your DSO to prevent SEVIS termination during academic or disciplinary issues. Our team also assists with transfers, level changes, and timely I-20 updates. For work authorization, we review CPT, OPT, and STEM OPT eligibility, draft compliant employer letters, and respond to RFEs or reinstatement needs. We also guide visa prep, travel planning, and documentation to reduce reentry or compliance risks. Our approach is practical and student-centered – clarify goals, align school and immigration rules, and act quickly to protect your status, eligibility, and future.
When NIL Deals Go Sideways, We Set Them Straight
K Altman Law helps student-athletes protect their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights when things get complicated. NIL deals move fast – and disputes with collectives, brands, agents, or promoters can escalate quickly. Our education-focused team represents high school and college athletes in contract conflicts, eligibility challenges, and reputational issues such as defamation or social-media misuse. We also intervene when schools or conferences impose unfair restrictions or violate due process. From the first call, we assess leverage and map strategy to meet your goals – whether that’s getting paid, restoring eligibility, or exiting a one-sided deal. We negotiate firmly and resolve most issues efficiently, but pursue emergency relief, grievances, or litigation when necessary. Because NIL sits at the crossroads of contract law, school policy, and athlete rights, our background in student defense and Title IX ensures your academic standing and eligibility remain protected. We review and draft NIL agreements to clarify deliverables, safeguard intellectual property, and ensure compliance with state and institutional rules. For families and advisors, we provide clear guidance on conflicts of interest, agent relations, taxes, and disclosures – preventing small issues from becoming season-ending problems. If you’re facing a payment dispute, eligibility concern, or contract pressure, or want a clean, compliant deal, K Altman Law is ready to help. Schedule a confidential consultation to protect your rights, reputation, and future in sport.
Keith Altman on The Dom Giordano Show
On Sept 2, 2025, Altman joined Audacy’s Dom Giordano Program, where he walked listeners through the practical stakes for students and schools, how PIAA policy intersects with federal law, and the kinds of process safeguards that keep competition fair. The appearance underscored why his perspective travels well beyond the courtroom: it’s calm, concrete, and aimed at helping families navigate real-world school settings, not just legal theory.
In October, the special education advocacy team achieved several impactful wins that advanced client outcomes and strengthened strategic initiatives. Notably, the team secured a much-needed independent educational evaluation and obtained a more restrictive placement for a student with complex needs. They also collaborated with a school district to address a unique situation, demonstrating flexibility and client-centered problem-solving. Internally, processes were streamlined through a focused roundtable to better support outcomes, while externally, several strategic partnerships were established, creating value for the firm, partners, and clients. Additionally, the team supported the due process team in filing a strong complaint and delivered an educational webinar on Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs), alongside a well-regarded co-host Sarah Meeks, of Cognitive Diagnostic Associates (CDA), further reinforcing their leadership in the field.
K Altman is an outstanding practice that is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to their clients. There is a level of trust necessary when dealing with legal matters that directly impact students. My experience with K Altman has been positive from the very first call. Having a law practice behind you that focuses on education will make every difference.
