K Altman Law to Lead National Conversation on Education Law at AAJ Event

K Altman Law is proud to announce that our Managing Partner, Keith Altman, will be leading a national legal education event on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM ET, hosted by the American Association for Justice (AAJ). The virtual Lunch and Learn will spotlight legal trends shaping the future of education in America, and K Altman Law will be front and center.

This special session is being presented by the newly established Education Litigation Group of AAJ, a national network of civil rights and trial attorneys focused on protecting students’ rights. Keith Altman serves as the Chair of the group, which reflects his national leadership in this space. He’ll be joined by Florence Murray, partner at Murray & Murray in Ohio and former Chair of AAJ’s Civil Rights Section, and Krystal Ashe, a seasoned Special Education Advocate and part of K Altman Law’s Special Education team.

While the event is targeted to attorneys, the issues being addressed are ones we encounter every day in our work with students, families, and educators, making this a moment of shared significance for our clients and community.

What It’s About:

This Lunch and Learn will explore how challenges within schools, such as inappropriate discipline, denied services, or discriminatory policies, can evolve into full-blown legal actions. The session is designed to educate trial attorneys, but it underscores a crucial reality: the systems meant to protect students often fall short, and families need experienced advocates who understand how to navigate both administrative procedures and complex litigation.

Topics Will Include:

  • The legal rights of students receiving Special Education services
  • How disciplinary issues escalate into civil rights violations
  • Current threats facing international students, students with disabilities, and students accused of academic misconduct
  • The legal misuse of technology like AI in academic settings
  • Constitutional protections for students in school-based investigations

Our team will not only be presenting these issues but shaping the national conversation about how best to address them. With representatives from K Altman Law serving as expert panelists—alongside some of the most respected attorneys in the country—this event is further evidence of our commitment to defending students and families with the depth, rigor, and credibility they deserve.

Why This Matters:

If you’re a student, parent, educator, school administrator, or partner organization, this event reinforces what you already know: the educational system is complex and, at times, deeply flawed. When families encounter those failures, K Altman Law is not only here to support them—we’re helping lead national reform and holding institutions accountable.

We’re honored to share this stage and proud that our work is being recognized by the nation’s top civil rights and litigation attorneys.
