In a world often marked by the chaotic rhythm of life, where every step seems to be a dash towards the finish line, sometimes, it’s the moments of camaraderie and selfless passion that truly define the meaning of life. Solomon Radner, a K Altman Law senior attorney, embodies this sentiment through his heartfelt love for hockey and his unwavering commitment to serving others.

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking with Solomon, who shared his inspiring love of Hockey intertwined with the honorable cause of the Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (RCCS), a Jewish-run organization dedicated to supporting families battling cancer. RCCS orchestrates hockey tournaments throughout the year to raise funds for its philanthropic endeavors. These tournaments span across three different states: Florida, Chicago, and Pennsylvania, attracting players from all corners of the globe.

Solomon’s involvement in these tournaments began as a serendipitous encounter, a mere suggestion from a fellow teammate, that eventually evolved into a profound commitment. “At first, I was thinking to myself, I’m not traveling to play Hockey” Solomon confesses, “but after I heard a little more about the organization and the amazing work that they do, I decided to play.” His debut tournament in Chicago in 2019 marked the beginning of a remarkable streak; he emerged undefeated. Since then, he has participated in 12 tournaments across Chicago, Florida, and Pennsylvania, triumphing in 11 cup games. Notably, he has clinched victory in 5 out of the 11 cups, a distinction unmatched by any other player across the tournaments in all three states. His name etched on all three cups in all three states.

His passion for hockey and his desire to make a meaningful impact converged seamlessly as he embarked on this journey. Leading Team Detroit in the Chicago tournament on February 25th of this year, generously sponsored by K Altman Law, Solomon and his team’s unwavering determination and competitive spirit led them to victory, clinching the coveted cup amidst a day filled with intense competition, emerging victorious in all 5 ice hockey matches.

Beyond the thrill of victory, it’s the camaraderie forged on the ice that resonates deeply with Solomon. ” It’s a good time. And everyone takes Hockey so seriously, just a bunch of adults acting like children,” Solomon chuckles, “but it’s for a good cause.” Unphased by the burdens of adulthood, united by their shared love for the game and their unwavering commitment to supporting those in need was truly refreshing to hear.

Yet, amidst the joy of playing Hockey, Solomon remains acutely aware of the wholehearted reality that motivates his involvement: the countless individuals battling cancer, their families grappling with the emotional and financial burdens imposed by this relentless adversary. “RCCS has thousands of patients worldwide who rely on them,” Solomon states, “and the only way to help them is with money… knowing that they are out there doing their part, the least I can do is do my part.”

As Solomon reflects on his journey, he emphasizes the importance of balance in life—balancing the demands of his legal career with his passion for hockey and philanthropy. Drawing upon a simple yet powerful analogy of prioritizing “big rocks” over “sand,” he highlights the need to focus on what truly matters and make time for the things that bring fulfillment and purpose.

But Solomon’s involvement doesn’t stop at the rink. He’s an avid advocate for RCCS, raising funds and spreading awareness about their mission. Whether it’s reaching out to potential donors or rallying his teammates for support, Solomon’s commitment to making a difference shine through in every endeavor.

As the upcoming tournament draws near, taking place this weekend on April 6 and April 7th, Solomon’s determination is unwavering. With a goal of raising $250,000 for RCCS, he’s ready to hit the ice once again, fueled by a passion for hockey and a deep-seated desire to support those in need. For anyone looking to get involved in fundraising events or support charitable organizations, Solomon offers sage advice—reach out, ask people for help, and select a charity you care about.

In an age where self-absorption often eclipses altruism, Solomon’s unwavering dedication serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the strong impact that individuals can have when they channel their passions towards a greater purpose. His story resonates not only as a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity but also as an inspiration to all those seeking to make a difference in the lives of others.

As our conversation came to an end, I found myself captivated by the depth of Solomon’s message. In a society filled with complexities and obstacles, his journey serves as a touching testament to the incredible power of empathy and generosity within us all. Whether advocating in the courtroom or commanding the ice, Solomon Radner’s steadfast dedication has left a profound impact, not only shaping the game but also enriching the lives of those around him. His example reminds us that triumph isn’t solely measured by victories, but by the meaningful connections we forge and the positive change we bring to the world, both on and off the rink.

Stay tuned for a follow-up story covering the upcoming tournament on April 6th and 7th, where Solomon and his team will be hitting the ice once again for the final Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (RCCS) Hockey Classic tournament.
